Canada Calling was launched by Toronto based CBC broadcaster Dave Price on January 4th, 1954 serving the ever growing number of Canadians spending winter vacation time in Florida.  The daily winter season broadcast was introduced to Canadians through an article that was published in the Toronto Telegram two days in advance, January 2nd, 1954.   From that day to this, 70 years later, Canada Calling has become a listening tradition throughout Florida, across the U.S. Sunbelt and the Bahamas.
